Principles in Equine Fracture Management Lab 2021

Develop skills and techniques for managing equine fractures with hands-on practical exercises supervised by experts.

Registration is currently only open to Group 1 participants who attended Principles in Equine Fracture Management 2020 Online. Both the 2021 Equine Principles Lab and the Equine Advanced course require separate registrations and tuition payments.

  • Description

    The Principles in Equine Fracture Management course will provide participants with the latest information and innovative techniques regarding the internal fixation of equine fractures. Starting with an exploration of the biological and biomechanical properties of internal fixation methods, participants will develop familiarity with the most current instrumentation and perform a step-by-step surgical technique review.

    Participants are encouraged to bring digital images of HIPAA-compliant radiographs of their problem cases for discussion. Instructions regarding the format for the images will be forwarded closer to the time of the course.

    Those interested in further developing knowledge and techniques associated with equine fracture management should consider registering for the second level of this course, Advanced Techniques in Equine Fracture Management.

    Learning will be delivered through

    • Hands-on laboratory sessions with an 8:1 participant-to-faculty ratio
    • Review of pre-recorded lectures and course material from Principles in Equine Fracture Management Internet LIVE 2020 (link will be provided)

    Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to
    Recognize and apply AO Principles to equine fracture management
    Describe the biological and biomechanical properties of internal fixation methods for equine fractures
    Discuss the importance of preoperative planning and other aspects of the clinical decision-making process in equine surgery
    Identify and select the most appropriate techniques for fixation of common and complicated equine fractures for the most successful outcome
