Honoring Bruce Mallin, MD: Tireless Teacher and Mentor
January 3, 2020

Bruce Arnon Mallin, MD died peacefully on December 17, 2019 at the age of 81, surrounded by his family.  Bruce Mallin, MD is fondly remembered as one of the “early adopters” of the AO Principles, and a tireless teacher and mentor.

Dr. Mallin led courses as a faculty chair for two decades, starting with his first course as chair in 1981. Among his many attributes, Bruce was well known for his pleasant demeanor, his willingness to help, and for his cowboy boots.

Bruce's 40-year career in medicine intersected with his service in the US Navy. As a physician in the Navy and later in the Navy Reserve, he retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain. His service during the Gulf War in 1991 changed the trajectory of his career and in cancer care in Arizona when he embarked on orthopaedic oncology training, ultimately saving the lives and limbs of thousands of patients with devastating cancers.

AO North America sends our condolences and warm wishes to his wife, Risa, and the entire Mallin family.
